It’s been a while! Sorry for the delays in blog posts but hopefully this one makes you *crave* for more.. food! That’s right I’m hitting the blog post back with a food one, enjoy and visually eat along with me <3.
Dining Location 1: Honey Salt
This place is CUTE: the lights, the decor, the table wear – it’s all very aesthetic. I went here with my coworkers for the annual holiday lunch!
There were a total of 7 of us there and we were seated comfortably. Despite going on a Friday afternoon, the restaurant was fairly quiet but we still made a reservation.
We each ordered something for ourselves and three things to share. Pictured below are the truffle fries. Not pictured were roasted brussel sprouts and sizzling shrimp with garlic bread. Even though I love fries (this one included), my favorite dish from here was the roasted brussel sprouts.
Question for my readers, are you truffel fans? After trying it a few times, I can’t say I’m the biggest fan. The after taste of the truffle tastes weird to me. Do you think it’s because I haven’t tried it enough times or are my taste buds still developing?
The dish pictured below is the Poke Bowl. If you’ve never had a Poke Bowl before it’s pretty much raw fish over rice with various vegetable or fruit toppings. Honey Salt makes a Poke Bowl with black rice and BC Albacore fish toppings. I really enjoyed the black rice – it was soft and crispy at the same time! The oranges were a refreshing taste to the whole mix as well. They do give you a good half avocado slice in the dish so it was pretty filling in the end. At first I was eating each part of the bowl separate but towards the end I just mixed everything together and it was still good!
Dining Location 2: Marutama
This was my first time at Marutama! I know, I can’t believe it either. There was no waiting time, but we did go around 9pm on a Wednesday night so maybe that made it better. This place is cute because they have the little baskets on the floor to put your bag or coat in.
Pictured below is the Tamago Ramen! Since it was my first time, I thought I should try the signature bowl and I have no regrets. It’s made with a creamy chicken broth (but so are all the other bowls so there’s no choice in broth really – which I was okay with).
The soup was really creamy and the noodles were nice and thin! I’m a big fan of thin noodles! I would definitely come back here because I really enjoyed the combination of creamy soup and thin noodles. One thing that really stood out to me was that I was given one whole egg instead of the egg cut in half. Biting in the whole egg was still oh so satisfying because it was still runny on the inside!
Dining Location 3: Kingyo
I came here on a Friday night – no reservation and we were seated just fine (if you don’t mind sitting in the big rectangle share table in the middle). If you do have a problem with sitting at the share table then I recommend making a reservation. I have never been here for dinner before but when we came here both of us weren’t that hungy so I don’t think ordering to the best of our ordering abilities ( I feel like we all have one of those types of those days thou).
So what did we order – two fried dishes of the same thing but one was cauliflower and the other was chicken. So since we’re already at this point let me to into what we liked about each dish then what I personally liked the best and would order again.
The top left of the photo is the fried cauliflower – and honestly it was good.. as fried cauliflower sounds. The bottom right of the photo is the fried chicken. It was jucy, tender and the pieces were fat. If you like spicy sauce this would definitely be for you. However, I wish it was crispier. OVERALL, I would order the fried chicken again – because at the end of the day I feel like cauliflower is just cauliflower and it’s hard to make a lasting impression on it since I’ve never really had a bad cauliflower experience.
Okay the bottom dish – was a lot bigger than we expected, like a lot bigger. We didn’t finish it and actually ended up taking it home. This dish was the Grilled Yellow Tail. and I really liked the caramel glaze part! I can’t say I really enjoyed the fish dish that much. I don’t know if its because I’ve never really eaten yellow tail before and didn’t know what to expect or if I just don’t like yellow tail. I found the fish it self to be a little dry and slightly chewy! The skin also wasn’t as crispy as I would have liked it to be. I don’t think I’ll order this particular dish again here at Kingyo, but this experience won’t stop me from trying similar dishes at other places!
My overall experience at Kingyo was good thou! I would definitely come here again on a much emptier stomach! Excited to come back next time to try new things.
Dining Location 4: Cozy Home Brunch Food
I made these pancakes with my friend Emily for a little brunch and munch. It’s expensive to eat out all the time okay. I really enjoy making food from scratch because you get to make what you want. It might not taste exactly how you want it to taste but practice makes perfect and eventually it will!
- 1 cup – whole wheat flour (but you can use any flour)
- 1 egg
- 1 tablespoon Brown Sugar
- 3/4 Soy Milk (but you can use regular milk as well)
- A pinch of each – Baking Soda and Powder
- Optional: Throw as much as you want in – Chocolate Chips
